Holiday on Stage

performing success

The time of luxury is not over – it just belongs to fewer people. The social concept of the wests welfare states is in doubt, global competition is rising and creating new rules of protectionism. Increasingly we live as little singular competitive identities and at the top, there is less room than ever.

Is there a formula for success? Well, yes: Nothing is more successful than success!

Artists are pioneers of a certain social phenomenon known as the ‚casting-society‘. Attention has become a value of its own. The democratization of prominence corresponds to Joseph Beuy’s declaration: everyone is an artist. Today, however, we have to say: everyone wants to be an artist.

Holiday on Stage is an investigation by Martin Schick and Damir Todorovic about seductive forces and strategies of our late western society, adapted to the art environment. The performers put themselves in the position of the contemporary upper class artist, questioning the legitimacy of naming oneself as an artist.

While industry and art are becoming more and more entwined, closing the gap between economic and cultural capital, the artist becomes a serving class within a new cyber-feudal society. With sponsorship, artist placement and the industrialisation of art, the question remains of what will happen to the art itself?

By playing humorously with clichés, quotes and aesthetics from daily life, HOLIDAY ON STAGE is a show, that provokes a contraversial discussion about future politics and human economics. You could call it a real ‚western‘.

“A timeless show and unique entertainment, surprising, accessible and a spectacular experience.”
Martin Schick

“A haunting mixture of subversive entertainment, humorous notions, shocking facts and real human fate!”
Damir Todorovic
